Types of Fuel Transfer Pumps

What is a Fuel Transfer Pump?

A fuel transfer pump can be an important component of internal combustion engine vehicles and devices. There are many engines that do not require any fuel pump like old motorcycle engines instead need gravity to transfer the fuel through a hose or a line to the engine.

The fuel transfer pump moves the fuel out of the fuel tank to different parts of the engine to allow it to run in a smooth way. It is usually placed outside of the fuel tank, however can also be on the back of the injection pump or within the fuel tank.

There are a number of fuel transfer pumps available in the market to choose from including the following:

  • Peristaltic Pump – It is a dosing pump that works by using rollers to squeeze the flexible tubing.
  • Manual Pump – It usesmechanical advantage and human power to move air or fluid from one place to another.
  • Gear Pump – It uses the meshing of gears to pump fluid through displacement.
  • Axial Flow Pump – It is a common type of pump that comprises a propeller in a pipe.
  • Bladder Pump – It contains a squeezable bladder and a flexiblecover in a rigid outer casing.
  • Rotary Pump – It consists of vanes mounted to a rotor.
  • Cantilever Pump – It is normally used in sump pump applications.
  • Turbine Pump – It uses pressure in a combination with a rotary mechanism to transfer fluid.
  • Piston Pump – It uses suction to increase the fuel into its chamber.

Most of these types of fuel transfer pumps can easily be purchased with Pro Flow Dynamics at affordable rates.
